Jim Matson Memorial
Many of us remember Jim Matson, a long-time contributor to SA-ASTD and many other community organizations, died on May 22 at age 84. We would like to honor Jim's distinctive contribution to our chapter and city by making a donation to SAMMinistries in his name. Mrs. Matson and their son, Morgan, will attend our July chapter meeting to receive our contributions.
In 1966, Jim founded Matson Multi-Media, an audio-visual production facility. Jim served on numerous boards, including Goodwill Industries of San Antonio, Goodwill International, the Optimist Club of San Antonio and SAMMinistries. Over the years, he won many business and volunteering awards.
Jim is famous for his passion for mentoring, inspiring and recognizing excellence in others. He understood the power of a compliment and praise to fuel someone. "He takes the time every day to figure out what someone brings to the table and honors them for it," Rebecca Helterbrand, Vice president of marketing for Goodwill Industries says of Matson.
Jim concluded one of his speeches with these words: "What you do for yourself dies with you. What you do for others lives on."
There are several ways in which you can donate to the SAMMinistries on behalf of Jim. One is to bring a check to the July meeting made out to “SAMMinistries.“ A second way is to mail us a check made out to SAMMinistries, but sent to: San Antonio ASTD P.O. Box 461566 San Antonio, TX 78246-1566
You can also donate directly to SAMMinistries by using a credit card. Their website address is: https://www.samm.org/index.php?option=com_jdonation&view=donation&Itemid=102
You can select any campaign of your choice. In the “organization” field, please enter SA-ASTD. Then in the “additional Information“ section, select “In Memory of“ and enter “Jim Matson“ in the name field.
